10/15/2011: Fatal accident on Puddingstone lake in San Dimas. (Updated 10/19/11 7:11am)
According to Lt. Stevenson at the LA County Sheriff Dept., accident involved boat vs Sea Doo. 4 were on the boat and 3 on the Sea Doo.
AP Reports, three women on Sea Doo killed in the accident and 4 on boat injured. The three women killed were 34-year-old Mari-Con Abello of Escondido and her 59-year-old mother Aurora Yeso of San Dimas. The Sheriff's Department said in a statement that the third woman is 47-year-old Anesia Barba Bautista of Glendora. The 4 others (3 men and 1 woman) injured were on boat and were released from hospital. Investigators say the driver of the boat was not intoxicated, but they have yet to determine whether the women on the Sea-Doo were under the influence.
Accident was reported at 4:52pm. Injured victims: 3 victims were airlifted to the hospital and 1 was taken by ambulance.
Divers have discontinued looking for video camera at bottom of lake that may have been attached to Sea Doo for clues to what may have happened in the accident. Although they did find the hood of the personal watercraft. An accident re-creation specialist will examine it to learn more about the cause of the collision.
Editors opinion is that this may prompt a review of the odd even schedule separation of boats and personal water craft to be expanded to year round, weekends or at least till the colder months. Currently, during summer months, boats are allowed on even days and jet skiis are allowed on odd days. Also as a reminder, the speed limit in the speed zone on the lake is 35mph.
Lake re-opened Tuesday, October 18th for boating. fast boating also as of this weekend.
